How does the position of sunset change along the horizon?

I was wondering if anyone new how the sunset moves over time on the horizon..does it move north or south? And also how does the sunset time change over 3 day time periods? For instance if the sunset took place at 5pm, would tomorrow's sunset take place after 5 or before 5? My location is in the northern hemisphere pacific time, if that helps at all.
